History of oil painting

The oldest Mediterranean culture, Roman, Greek, or Egyptian have widely used painting techniques based on mixtures of encaustic, mineral pigments and tempera.

Vegetable oils, such as flax or walnut were known to ancient Egyptians, Greeks or Romans. According to the investigator, Giorgio Vasari (1511-1574) the technique of oil painting was invented in Europe in 1410 by Jan van Eyck, a Flemish painter (1390 -1441). However, this technique was changing over the years. There were many painters who make improvements to the process of oil painting. Leonardo da Vinci was one of them. He improved the preparation of oily mixtures at low temperature.
